Special Announcement: Pulteney appoints new Deputy Principal
A message from Principal, Greg Atterton, to the Pulteney community
It gives me great pleasure to announce the appointment of Mr Troy McKinnon as the next Deputy Principal of Pulteney Grammar School, commencing at the beginning of Term 4, 2026.
Following a comprehensive national and international search, Troy emerged as the outstanding candidate from an exceptionally strong field of applicants that attracted interest from highly accomplished educational leaders from overseas, interstate and across South Australia.
Throughout a rigorous selection process, Troy consistently demonstrated the depth of experience, strategic capability and values-based leadership that will be instrumental in supporting the continued growth and success of our School.
Troy joins Pulteney with more than 25 years of experience in education, including almost a decade serving as a member of the Executive at Prince Alfred College. During this time, he has established an outstanding reputation as a relational and highly respected leader with significant expertise across pastoral care, co-curricular leadership and whole-school operations.
His executive portfolio has encompassed strategic leadership of one of Australia’s most comprehensive co-curricular programs, oversight of substantial operational budgets, major capital projects, enterprise bargaining, governance, risk management and the successful delivery of large-scale school initiatives. Alongside these responsibilities, Troy has remained deeply committed to and championed student wellbeing and staff development, believing that exceptional schools are built through strong relationships, clear purpose and a culture where every individual feels known, valued and encouraged to flourish.
Importantly, Troy brings leadership experience across both co-educational and single gender school environments. His breadth of experience provides him with a comprehensive understanding of the diverse needs of contemporary school communities and will serve Pulteney well as we continue to strengthen our commitment to outstanding learning, wellbeing and community engagement.
Throughout the appointment process, Troy impressed the selection panel with his authentic leadership style, thoughtful judgement, strategic thinking and unwavering commitment to people. His philosophy of visible, relational leadership aligns strongly with Pulteney’s values and our aspiration to nurture young women and men who flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Troy is widely recognised as a humble, approachable and collaborative leader who invests deeply in developing others and building cohesive, high-performing teams. His calm presence, operational expertise and commitment to continuous improvement will be significant assets to our Executive team and to the broader Pulteney community.
As many of you know, the appointment of a Deputy Principal is among the most significant leadership decisions a school makes. I am delighted that we have secured an educator of Troy’s calibre, integrity and experience, and I have every confidence he will make an outstanding contribution to the future of Pulteney Grammar School.
I know you will join me in warmly welcoming Troy, his wife, Danielle, and family to our community. We look forward to introducing him to our community over the coming months ahead of his commencement in Term 4 and supporting him as he becomes part of the life of our School.
I would also like to acknowledge and thank the selection panel, namely Nadia Maglica, Head of Teaching and Learning, and Ben Raw, Business Director, for the considerable time, wisdom and discernment they invested throughout this important appointment process. Their thoughtful contributions ensured a rigorous and thorough process, culminating in an appointment that will serve our School well into the future.
