Performing Arts, Term 2 Week 2

Year 3 String Program

In 2021 we initiated a new Year 3 String Program, where students in Year 3 can nominate to learn the violin or cello in small groups, free of charge. This program includes free lessons, music and instrument hire for Terms 2, 3 and 4 this year (approx 26 lessons).

Last Term, our strings tutor Katherine Quirk gave a presentation to the Year 3’s, showing them what the violin and cello look and sound like.

If you are keen for your child to have a go at this program, please complete the attached Online Form, as an expression of interest. It is critically important that you assist your child’s learning in this program, so they practice regularly and get the most out of this wonderful opportunity. If you require further details, please don’t hesitate to contact me via email at Jonathon.rice@pulteney.sa.edu.au

Mamma Mia and COVID

Could we please request that all Mamma Mia cast and crew minimise their involvement and attendance with social and other external events, as much as possible, so we can try to avoid COVID. We know this is a challenge, but we are trying to avoid students getting COVID a week prior to the show and then having to isolate and miss out on doing the show. This would be very sad and of course create many issues for the remaining cast.

The Instrumental Soiree, which was scheduled this Wednesday 11 May at 6pm in the Chapel, has been postponed, with the future date yet to be announced. Thanks for your understanding.

Winter Concert

Saturday 18 June, Week 7 Term 2

We are excited to once again hold the Pulteney Winter Concert event, where we present two concerts. The first 4.00pm – 5.15pm featuring the Primary students at the School and then, at 7.00pm, the Middle and Senior School’s concert. In between the two events we will offer food in the Middle School, with the Paella Truck, Indian Curry Truck, Friends of Performing Arts Soup Kitchen and the bar featuring our own brewed Warm Mead Wine.

This exciting event will feature most of the School’s music ensembles, choirs and groups and will be a wonderful evening of musical entertainment.

More details about this exciting event will come out soon, but in the meantime, please keep the date free.

Welcome Laura Brougham and thanks to Stuart Robison

As part of the recent re-structure of Executive Assistants and Administrative support through the School, we welcome Laura Brougham to the Performing Arts team. Laura will also be working with the wider School administrative team but will be a significant support within the Performing Arts faculties. Laura is an experienced administrator and dancer/choreographer, and I welcome her to Pulteney.

Stuart has been acting in the Performing Arts Administrator role since Ali O’Connell left us in September last year, and I thank him for all his efforts. We take this opportunity to thank Stuart and wish him well.

Cello Tutor

As mentioned last term, Kim Worley has left our school. We are in the middle of appointing a new cello tutor and as a result, we hope to resume cello lessons in Week 4 this term. We will be in contact with those families involved.

Generations in Jazz 2022

While this year’s Generations in Jazz (GIJ) event has been forced online, sadly meaning no road trip to Mt Gambier, we are still competing with Stage Band 1 and 2 plus Jazz on the Terrace. We will be videoing our performances in Week 3 this Term and submitting them to the GIJ site in Week 4.

On Thursday 16 June (6.30-9.30pm), there is a live streamed concert for GIJ, where our three competing groups will gather and watch the concert with performers streamed live from around the globe, to our screen. We will share a meal (provided by the School) and watch the concert and see the winners announced live. While this is nothing like the experience we normally have, we are appreciative that the Board of GIJ have been able to put this event together for 2022.

For those ensembles who are performing, please complete the attached ONLINE FORM.

We look forward to a more normal GIJ in 2023!

Parents, please download Canvas prior to Learning Conferences.
Canvas is one the most innovative and adaptable platforms in the LMS landscape, providing a safe online environment for us to design personalised Pulteney courses. Canvas enables students, parents, and teachers to share and exchange detailed information about the teaching and learning process as it develops for each student. Importantly, it serves as the primary platform for reporting your child’s progress, aligning with the continuous reporting strategy implemented this year.
