On 5 and 6 November the Stage 1 Outdoor Education class participated in an overnight, skills focused program. The goals included developing rock climbing, sailing and peer facilitation skills. The students rock climbed in a unique location at The Bluff in Victor Harbor before camping at Waitpinga bush camp. The meals prepared that night were graded and the students produced some delicious dishes including basil pesto pasta, spicy chorizo pizza and gnocchi napolitana.
On Friday the group travelled to Goolwa and learnt the basics of sailing. The conditions were ideal for beginner sailing and the students soon learnt to rig, leave and return to shore safely and tack. The Pacer boats were great for the students to practice their skills in and Goolwa Aquatic Club were most supportive of the program. The goals of the program were superseded through the application and enthusiasm of the students, the ideal conditions and the instructing of the staff. The program is the ultimate experience for students in 2020, and provided an excellent base for the students enrolled in Stage 2 Outdoor Education in 2021.
