Prep School

Welcome to Term 4!

Our calendar for the final term of the School year is looking very busy! I have

listed some important dates for the diary at the end of this letter.

Values and Ethics - Theme Term 4

The Prep School has chosen ‘Care and Compassion’ from the Values and Ethics curriculum as the theme for Term 4. Integrated into all key-learning areas, classroom teachers will explore the following concepts with their students:

Remember that it is important to:

  • Take care of myself
  • Take care of others
  • Take care of my environment

This theme will also be incorporated into the ‘Habits of Mind’ concepts that are being introduced at all year levels in the Prep School this term.

The four ‘Habits of Mind’ that the children will be encouraged to explore in class in Term 4 are:

  • Thinking Flexibly
  • Creating, Imagining and Innovating
  • Responding with Wonderment and Awe
  • Finding Humour

I encourage all parents to take the opportunity to discuss the theme of ‘Care and Compassion’ and the ‘Habits of Mind’ with your children to help further their understanding and appreciation of these concepts.

Grandparents’ Day

Unfortunately, the School has had to make the decision to cancel Grandparents’ Day for 2020 due to COVID19. In lieu of this event, students at all year levels will be writing letters of gratitude and thanks to their grandparents or special friends in the first weeks of term. Grandparents’ Day is a favourite event for all in the Prep School and we look forward to celebrating this occasion again in 2021.

Class placements 2021

During the next few weeks the 2021 classroom lists will be compiled. Placement for students result from a range of information gathered from the current year by classroom and learning support teachers, together with an awareness of individual student academic and social development and peer interactions. The successful implementation of these guidelines ensures a smooth transition whereby the learning and wellbeing of each student remains paramount.

As the Prep School staffing for next year is still in the process of being finalised a letter outlining class placements for 2021 will be sent to parents and carers in due course.

Please note that all written requests from parents will be taken into consideration as class lists are formed. However, I must stress that, as it is important for us to consider the needs of each individual child as we formulate class lists, requests by parents may not always be able to be met. Thank you for your understanding.

The children have all returned to school looking smart in their summer uniform. They will all be reminded during Assembly this week that the straw hat or akubra is part of the summer uniform and must be worn to and from school. If you could encourage your child to wear the correct uniform to school each day it would be greatly appreciated.
