Year 12 SACE Stage 2 Solo Performance and Ensemble Performance

Last weekend, we held the last of three summative assessment performances for our Year 12 (SACE Stage 2) musicians and singers. They all performed to a very high standard, and I know their teacher, Ms Annie Kwok, was delighted the way they performed on the day to a live audience, but also their growth through the year. I congratulate the students and Ms Annie Kwok for their tremendous efforts.

Auditions

As mentioned last week, we are currently running auditions for the Jazz on the Terrace, Senior Concert Choir, Stage Band 1 and 2 and Concert Band ensembles and choirs. Please ask your son or daughter to present to the Nicholls Performing Arts Centre to register for an audition.

We are also planning for the Matilda musical production auditions which start with a “cattle call” on Friday 6 November. If your son or daughter is interested in being part of this huge event, please ask them to join the Matilda 2021 team in Microsoft Teams as soon as possible.

Nicholls Opening ceremony

On Thursday 15 October, we held the opening ceremony for the refurbished Nicholls Performing Arts Centre. With over seventy guests, including the South Australian Education Minister Mr John Gardner MP, Mr Andy Nicholls (Grandson of former Principal Mr Nicholls), Jo Casson (Ding Productions), Kate Watts (Old Scholar), stories were told of the occupancy of Nicholls in bygone years, followed by tours of the new facility. Many seeing the new centre for the first time were not only very impressed with the building, but also of the embedded technology and outstanding floor plan and use of available space.

Special thanks to all who attended and those that put the evening together.

ABODA SA School Band and Orchestra Festival Awards

The annual ABODA SA School Band and Orchestra Festival could not go ahead as usual due to COVID restrictions, but the festival did go ahead as an online event, where schools submitted video recordings. For us the process was a challenge, but in the end all of the ensembles received silver awards except the Senior Handbell Ensemble, who not only won their section with a gold award, but also won overall champion for tuned percussion groups across South Australia. What a wonderful achievement by the Senior Handbell Ensemble.  Special congratulations to the musical director of the group, Ali O’Connell. What a wonderful job was done! I hope the members enjoy this moment of great success before preparing for the significant events to flow for the rest of Term 4.
