one ninety

On Tuesday we celebrated the outstanding academic achievement of our 2020 High Achievers, welcoming back our Old Scholars, parents and their guests. As well as celebrating those who achieved an ATAR over 90, we recognised three students: Felix Jones, Angelique Patsouris and William Rooke, who achieved ATAR’s over 99 placing them in the top 1% of the nation, awarding them an Academic Blue. The ceremony also allowed us to formally acknowledge our Proxime Accessit, Dyllan Zhang recipient of and Academic Blue and the T.W. Trott Prize and Dux of the School, Declan Beard. Declan was also the recipient of an Academic Blue and was awarded the W.S. Moore Memorial Prize - for Dux of the School.

Old Scholar Harry Blight performed a remarkable drum performance and Sophie Penberthy presented the Old Scholar’s address, reflecting on the importance of the ‘drive’ to improve and accessing support along the way. Congratulations to all of our high achievers and thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to be with us. To the current students who were in attendance, I encourage you to use this assembly as inspiration. I say to you, identify your goals, whether they be academic, sporting, in the arts or whatever your passion. Be brave enough to set the bar high for what it is that you want and believe you can fulfil this. Once you have made your plan, act on it.

The current Year 12s spent Thursday and Friday last week on Retreat, taking two days out of their busy schedules to slow down, reflect on the year ahead of them, and build their community so they might walk together, supporting each other on this journey. Nunyara was a beautiful site for reflection. There were many laughs, especially at some interesting acting skills, but most importantly I was impressed by the depth of reflection and the strength of the relationships in the cohort. I look forward to the year ahead! Thank you to Reverend Tracey for leading us across the two days, the Tutors and Heads of House for your leadership and those in the Executive who were able to make the time to visit us.

In our Week 5 Wellbeing Program, Year 10s will do some work around study skills with Elevate education, while the Year 11s focus on preparing for Work Experience and start a series on Financial Literacy.
