Sport

Sports education aims to develop a student’s athletic abilities as well as social and behavioural skills which can benefit all aspects of life. Pulteney's positive and all-inclusive approach to physical education ensures students progress as confident participants, with an excellent understanding of body movement, discipline, and responsibility for health and fitness. Furthermore, our programs are facilitated by exceptional physical education teachers who listen to, observe, and teach every student.

At Pulteney, we offer a range of sports and physical education programs to suit varied interests and skill sets. The School encourages all students to engage in sport despite their level of experience or abilities. Pulteney fosters a culture of support and inclusivity that is shared between year levels. Students are motivated to unite over their sporting pursuits and promote a sense comradery that carries through to all aspects of school life.

The development of strength, co-ordination and body awareness begins in the early years. As students grow, so does the breadth of sporting activities, including opportunities to coach and umpire games through Pulteney’s unique coaching program. Students are given the opportunity to learn game management and coaching techniques from accomplished coaches and athletes, who are at the top of their field, including Olympic gold mentalists.

There is a growth of career prospects in this sector and therefore Pulteney prepares students with skills and knowledge to be leaders in the field. Whilst concurrently providing exceptional development opportunities for students who excel in their chosen sport.

In 2023, Pulteney was the first school to sign with the Adelaide 36ers as a foundation school. The partnership provides exclusive coaching with professional players, as well as players and coaches visiting the school for events.

Furthermore, Pulteney’s robust sports programs gives our students options to test their strengths and abilities in various summer and winter sporting codes. Including, Martial Arts, Archery, Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Gymnastics, Hockey, Netball, Swimming, Soccer, Tennis, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Football (AFL), Badminton, Rowing, and E sports.

The Sports Department at Pulteney is managed by outstanding members of the Australian sports community, including two time world champion netballer, Michelle Den Dekker OAM, Head of Sport, and former AFL player Scott Camporeale, Head of Performance

Sports Program

Age-appropriate sporting programs are available for all students from Reception to Year 12, allowing everyone the opportunity to participate, to challenge themselves physically and to achieve their personal bests. Our students enjoy Physical Education lessons right from the Early Learning Centre (ELC) and have the option to participate in competitive summer and winter sport.

The range of sports and activities cater for all skills and interests, and include athletics, basketball, volleyball, cricket, cross country, Australian Rules football, hockey, soccer, netball, rowing, swimming, softball, tennis as well as options including yoga, chess and debating.

I also took up the opportunity to play for the First XI soccer team under the guidance of experienced players and coaches. I was ushered into the community with open arms and friendly faces of which I am still thankful for today.
